That's Not the Way I Homeschool!

There is a traditional false impression that all house schoolers educate at house because of spiritual factors.  Some individuals hear the term house schooling and instantly get an image in their head of large close relatives members being taught by a jeans bouncer dressed mother.  These same individuals imagine book webpages, and copy perform, Holy bible line recall skills, and tight behavior.  While this is one house
schooling design, that is not the way I house schooling.

Another concept of house schooling is that of the “hippie” back-to-nature sort of homeschooler.  An outsider looking into a day in that house schooling might anticipate finding few guides, but plenty of arms on studying as the kids understand to develop their own food, reduce their as well as impact, and raise their own poultry.  This, too, is one way that individuals house schooling. But that is not the way I house schooling.

Yet another concept is the “unschooler” design of house schooling.  This is sometimes known as student-led education and learning.  There are that who think this type of house schooling, or unschooling, results in learners without a instructor, and allows the higher education student to be sluggish all day, gaming and browsing the web.  From what I understand about unschooling, that is not the case, but that is not the way I house schooling.

Then, of course, is the “gifted” house schoolers.  The typical false impression here is that learners are forced too hard, forced into classes above their grade level or their age.  Parents of these blessed learners are seen as motorists who run their kids tattered because the mother or father is out to prove that the community university is insufficient to keep up with the great requirements of their blessed higher education student.  While this is probably true in some homes, it is not the standard, and that is not how I house schooling.

Of course, there are the survivalists/anti-government house schoolers who are seen as keeping their kids under served and separated.  In this group one might anticipate finding learners who are knowledgeable at house and individual from the globe because the globe is risky, the govt is seen as managing and obtrusive and learners are kept house to keep them out of “the system”.  Again, possible, but that is not how I house schooling.

There are as many methods to house schooling as there are close relatives members that house schooling.  And there are probably almost as many misunderstandings about house schooling.  Let me provide you with one image of a house schooling close relatives, my own, that goes against all of the generalizations.

We are what our house schooling program, Time4Learning, calls random house schoolers.  It was never my purpose to house schooling.  I was a firm believer that kids required to go to university, to understand the factors they required to understand to exist on the globe.  After a season and a half of community university I realized out three things: 1) my kid was blessed, 2) my kid had ADHD, and 3) the traditional class room design did not perform for my kid.  And so after much though, many crying, and a lot of refusal we began our house schooling journey.

We consider ourselves high-end house schoolers.  We do not house schooling for spiritual factors.  That is not to say that we are not spiritual, only that we do not house schooling because of our spiritual beliefs.  My kid is an only kid, and her homework contains almost no book webpages.  We use an online program, which reduces the amount of documentation my kid has to perform through.

We are not the back-to-nature house schoolers, either.  We recently shifted to property that allows us to have a garden. We do practice some hands-on studying where we develop some of our own vegetables and protect that collect.  And that brings me to the student-led aspect of our house schooling.  My kid a lot wants to be a animal medical practitioner.  To that end, we motivate arms on animal husbandry, and plenty of individual studying to prepare for that future career.  There are more guides around than I have room for, on many topics, which range from pet care, to traditional literary works, to cooking, canning, history, and biographies.  Access to guides is always free, and motivated, whether it is for educational reasons, or entertainment.

My kid is blessed, but I do not generate her to understand, that generate comes from inside of her.  I do not force her unless she needs forcing, to complete a community studies task, for example, or to go forward and take a mathematical test and not “orphan” it to the next day.  I constantly plan in advance, so that I will have the necessary guides and components so that when she chooses to force forward and complete a season of science in a little over a term, I have other components for her to move into.  I know that she will need double credit great school/college courses well before she is of an age to be allowed to individually be present at higher education.  That is all part of the planning I must do. Sometimes I think having a blessed kid just means that the mother or father has to keep working harder.

Finally, we do not house schooling because the globe is a risky place, but it does provide me comfort to know where my little girl is, with whom she is interacting, and to what she is being exposed.  Because she is house with me most times I can observe her phone and computer use.  Hopefully I can keep her safe, and boost her self-esteem before the globe gets to try to split her down.  She is not separated from community or socializing.  In fact, sometimes I wonder why it is known as house schooling when we spend so much time at the co-op, collection, field visits, park times, choir, handbells, riding training, cathedral, and Tae Kwon Do. We actually have to think carefully about adding any other community opportunities to our schedule so that we can concentrate on university work!

The interesting thing is that I do know close relatives members who fit the generalizations listed above for house schoolers.  I also know a lot of close relatives members who discuss one or more aspects of the factors and methods we house schooling in my house. While each loved one's house schooling may look different, what we do discuss in typical is an active role in our kid's education and learning and the versatility to house schooling in the way that works for our own close relatives.  I try to provide the best, personalized education and learning for my little girl's unique studying styles, choices, and interests.  That is the way I house schooling.

Thank you for visiting.
