Ethics in Communication
Ethics in Communication
In everyday life human will never escape from the communication. From the start we wake up until then fell asleep again, communication has always been our main activity whether it be verbal or non-verbal communication, whether it be personal communication or communications organization.

Things like this have become our nature as a man who is unable to live alone. We always need other people around us, even if only for just doing small talk because humans are social beings and of the human interaction that is slowly creating shared values which are then referred to as culture.

In the values of the form there are some rules that aim govern the way we communicate between each other without hurting and ethics as a token of appreciation to our speaker. But sometimes use something that we think is an ethic can result in something unpleasant and lead to misunderstandings between people. Why did it happen? Though we use ethical goal is to try to appreciate the audience.

Use of ethics in the context of interpersonal communication has its own paradox. On the other hand, this can be a positive thing, but sometimes something negative and destructive and aggravate the situation can also occur. Various things to be responsible for this. From the start the way we communicate among each other up when we use ethics in interaction.

Interpersonal Communication

The title as social beings, humans always engage and interact with others both corporately and personally. In its involvement in inter-personal interaction, humans do exchange messages through a variety of symbols agreed that the use of the five senses can be optimally owned and provide feedback to each other. Communication that is going on in a small scope (only between 2-3 people) has a great influence in psychological development and the quality of our relationships with others.

Ethics in Communication

Many people assume that in a conversation, we had to use ethics to appreciate and respect the other person. There is a theory that defines ethics as "a branch of philosophy that speaks of values and norms, moral determine human behavior in his life". In this theory, ethics has three objectives, namely:

- Helping people to act freely and accountable

- Helping people take a stance and act appropriately in this life.

- The final goal to create happiness.

Regardless whether or not we agree with the above theory, but there are things we can agree that relate to moral ethics, "the system of how we should live as well as humans."

Ethics of interpersonal communication

Potential ethical issues are always inherent in any form of interpersonal communication so that communication can be assessed in the dimensions of right and wrong, involve significant impact on other human beings, so communicators consciously choose specific objectives to be achieved and the means of communication in order to achieve the objectives the. Is a communicator aims to convey information, improve one's understanding, facilitate decisions freely to others, offer important values, showing the existence and relevance of a social problem, provide an answer or program of action or trigger conflict-potential ethical issues are integrated in efforts symbolic communicator. Such is the situation in most personal communication, good communication between two people, in small groups, in the rhetoric of social movements as well as in public relations.

Even the expression that humans are the only animals "that literally can be called to have the value". More specifically, perhaps the highest essence of man is homo ethicus, man is the maker of ethical judgment. But the question arises, why the question of ethics in interpersonal communication? Obviously, to avoid talking about ethics in communication, people will lean on a wide variety of justification:
(1) every person knows that a particular communication technique is unethical so do not need to be discussed;
(2) because the important thing in communication is just a matter of success, the ethical issues are not relevant;
(3) ethical judgment is simply a matter of individual assessment in private so that there is no definitive answer; and
(4) assess the ethics of others it shows arrogance or even impolite.

Potentially arise tension between "reality" and "necessity", between the actual and the ideal. Maybe there is a tension between what each person with what we think should be done by the person. Maybe there is a conflict between what we consider to be successful communication and assessment techniques should not be used because of a defect according to ethics. We may over-emphasize an understanding of the nature and effectiveness of the techniques, processes and methods of communication at the expense of attention to ethical issues concerning the use of techniques like that. We must examine not only how, but also whether we should ethically, use various methods and approaches. The issue of "whether", obviously not the only adjustment of the audience, but rather an issue of ethics. We may feel that the goals can not be achieved ethics significantly so not a lot of benefits.

How do the participants in a private communication transaction assess the ethics of communication, or what outside observers assess ethical, will vary depending on the ethical standards they use. Most among even might choose not to consider ethics. However, the potential ethical issues remain unresolved despite or missed.

Is a communicator wants ethical judgment or not? Communicant generally will assess, officially or unofficially, efforts communicators based on relevant ethical standards in their opinion. If not for any other reason, other than pragmatic reasons, namely to increase the chance of success, communicators need to consider ethical criteria of the audience.

Different understanding of ethical values that exist make every person can have a different assessment of the faithful communication ethics. In the ethical use of interpersonal communication must be careful because it is not impossible that our ethical understanding is different from the communicant. The lack of understanding between people can bring a miss communication that will lead to the emergence of various prejudices and misunderstandings.

In a wide range of these differences, we should be able to adapt quickly. Values that form the ethics we must understand properly because there is actually no communication that does not use ethical values in it, every form of communication always use ethical although the levels of each appropriate to the context, purpose and situation.
